Next morning we grabbed the bikes and set off to explore Carcassonne again. Our main aim was to ride to the Citadel and old Cite of Carcassonne.On our way we rode through this arch, an ancient gate to the old city of Carcassonne, then past the pretty 1900 carousel you can see here through the arch. The historic Place Carnot, in the centre of the Bastide St. Louis, dates from 1262 when those who lived outside the walls of the fortified Cite were allowed to build a new lower town.
